I'ma put you to bed, Malik

I just wanted to remind everyone of this great moment in TV history.  For those that don't know, before The Game came to BET and DIED, it used to be a pretty witty and clever show on the CW.  This is a scene from one of the earlier seasons.  This scene is memorable for a few reasons:

1) It deals with homophobia and closeted gay men in the Black community.
2) It was the end of J. Holiday's career.

The song "Bed" by J. Holiday was a pretty popular song.  J. Holiday was on his way up until this scene in The Game.  You see, now anyone who ever hears the song "Bed" by J. Holiday automatically thinks "I'ma put you to bed, Malik."  Thus signalling the end of J. Holiday's career.  Don't worry J. Holiday, from the sounds of it, The Game is on it's way out as well.

Young & Hip Hop

Recently I went out to an after-work party here in NYC.  I like the after-work crowd cuz they're chill, good people, good vibes & no cover.  However at this last party, I noticed something...I didn't know any of the songs!  I spent the whole night fake two-stepping to songs that I barely recognized.  And that's when it hit me...am I old?

Between the ever indistinguishable pop music (Rhianna, Pitbull, LMFAO) strip club music (anything Waka Flacka does) and Drake (I hate his face)...I think I'm out of touch.  It wasn't until the DJ started playing the obligatory MJ set with some old school Chaka & Stevie that I really found my groove.  But, when did I become an old lady?

I'm only 27...I like to think I'm still young & hip.  Oh wait, is the fact that I just said young & hip an indication of being old?  I think the real issue is I'm just not into today's music.  I love vocals and harmonies, instruments and minor chords.  Today's music seems like it's more about computer-made beats, catchy phrases (YOLO!), and twerking.

I dunno, maybe it's time I take a break from the club scene, or at least find a nice 30 and over club that's more in line with my 1990s sensibilities.  To all the DJs out there, let's bring back some of the classics: a lil Jodeci, teenage Bobby Brown, old school Mary J, hell, all 3 Tony's.  Let's show these whippersnappers what real music is!

Christmas Countdown: Favorite Christmas Songs

As I've told yall already, I LOVE Christmas.  The day after Thanksgiving, I unleash the Holiday playlist on my iPhone & I rock out until Dec. 25.  There are definitely Christmas classics that everyone knows:
  1. Mariah Carey Merry Christmas is undoubtedly the best Christmas album ever
  2. Anything by the Temptations & Jackson 5.  What can I say, they're legends
  3. Donny Hathaway "This Christmas" is one of the most amazing songs ever written!
  4. The Preacher's Wife Soundtrack.  What can I say, pre-crack Whitney was pretty damn great.
  5. Chuck Brown "Merry Christmas Baby" for my DMV heads

And then there are some new jams that I think are instant classics.

Best version of "This Christmas": Chris Brown

Best Half on a Baby Christmas Song: Justin Bieber "Christmas Eve"

Most underrated Christmas Song: Katy Perry - "White Christmas"

My most-played Christmas Song: Rascal Flatts - "I'll be home for Christmas"

I couldn't find these videos on YouTube Honorable Mentions:

Best Jesus is the Reason Song: Kelly Price - "Messiah has come"
Instant Classic: Stevie Wonder & India.Arie - "The Christmas Song"
